On Piste Fun and Games All Over Meribel

A few alternative things to do with the family this week

featured in News & reviews Author Jack Franks, Meribel Reporter Updated

I’m sure you’ve heard that there is a lack of snow in the 3 Valleys right now. This may be true to a point but what people often fail to report is that Meribel & the whole of the 3 Valleys is famous for doing an incredible job of maintaining its pistes, and this season is no different with plenty of incredible skiing, despite the relentless sunshine.

However, with resorts getting a lot busier over the New Year period and fewer runs than usual open, it can get incredibly overcrowded on certain runs. At times like these, sometimes the best thing to do is to just stop, pop the skis off and take a breather.

Why not combine these ski breaks with one of the many fun activities put on by resort staff over the coming week. Here are some of the best, along with some evening fun to get involved with.

29th December – Archery Initiation

Fancy yourself as the next Katniss Everdeen? Head to the bottom of the Loze Express lift for a free introduction to the sport of archery. Target practice opens at 9am and runs until 4.30pm. Open to all from age 8 up. Free tea and hot chocolate for all participants.

29th December – Inuits Fair

Fun and games in the Inuits Village just off of the green Blanchot run. One for the kids. Staff will be on hand to help organise many fun games including bowling and that fairground classic – chucking a hard projectile at a load of empty baked bean tins. 1pm until 4.30pm. Ages 5+.

30th December – Fishing Mystery

Go fishing at the little pond in the Inuits Village. A bit of imagination required here as this game closely resembles the old ‘hook a duck’ fairground game. But with free hot chocolate as the reward you can’t really complain. 1 – 4.30pm.

30th December – Himalaya by Night (Night Skiing)

Mottaret’s new Yeti Park will be floodlit from 5.30 – 7.30pm for their newest evening activity; night skiing. Wrap up warm and take on a few runs after dark before warming yourself with a hot drink and some grilled marshmallows.

31st December – Serenity Day

Head to Mottaret snow front between 6 and 8pm on New Year’s Eve for a fun evening of demonstrations and games put on by resort staff and free hot drinks for all. A family friendly evening of entertainment to get you in the mood for the NYE party later on.

31st December – Extraordinary Eagle Show

Get up close and personal with these incredible birds of prey near the Loze Express lift. Throughout the day, between 10 and 4.30pm you’ll witness demonstrations by bird handlers featuring Lac Leman Eagles.

Until 1st Jan – Meet the Huskies

Every day until the 1st January between 1 and 4.30pm you have the chance to meet a group of husky dogs. Resident Musher, Karine will be on hand to answer and husky related questions you may have. These beautiful dogs are very friendly and love to pose for pictures.
