What's on in Meribel this week

The official start of the season is upon us

It may not feel quite like a French ski resort just yet with these warm winter days and the patchy white mountain tops above, but this won’t stop Meribel on officially beginning the 2016-2017 winter ski season.

With lifts opening this Saturday the 10th of December followed by a jam packed week of opening parties, birthdays, live music and après ski events lined up at most bars across town, you’ll find it easy to ignore the lack of snow on the ground (but at least there's some up on the mountains though!)

Saturday kicks off the official beginning to the season with some lifts opening in Meribel and Courchevel allowing skiers and snowboarders access to the sister valley, Val Thorens, whose lifts opened almost two weeks ago. Shuttle buses will also begin to run, offering passengers free services to most villages within the resort and will operate daily for the rest of the season. Evolution Café Bar and Brasserie will play host to an Open Mic Night with Daisy B, encouraging anyone to get involved and showcase their inner star performance.

Sunday the 11th is the official Jacks Bar 23rd Birthday Party paired with the introduction of its new weekly event, Shameless Sunday’s, offering new DJs each week from 10pm onwards. As a double event this week, Jacks Bar won’t disappoint in a night of birthday celebrations and mash-up music. For more event information, head to the Jacks Bar Facebook page.

Monday the 12th sees ample live music on offer throughout the resort with the High Jives at Rond Point, Dominos at Doron Pub and a surprise band at Jacks.

Doron Pub plays host to it’s Welcome the Winter Opening Party on Tuesday the 13th with live music from 10.30pm and happy hour 4pm-6pm. Guitar soloist, Hobo Chic, features live on Tuesday at Evolution with Daisy B & Tom next door at Jacks Bar from 5pm. “Catch You Next Tuesday” drinks promotions will be on offer at Jacks including cheap shots for those wanting a hefty night!

For those keen ski-trippers, it’s widely known that Wednesday is chalet hosts’ day off in resort and given it being the first official week of the season, it would be a crime to miss out on the ever more eventful après-parties on offer this Wednesday. The Rond Point is the place to be on a Wednesday from 5pm, with the largest Wednesday après-ski event happening in resort. DJ Bubble & Crisp offers sweet tunes to a sea of drunken holiday-makers and seasonaires embracing the spectacular on-piste views and surreal party vibe - something you have to see for yourself! Don’t miss out!

Thursday 15th brings us closer to the end of the first week of the season with Hobo Chic live at Jacks from 5pm and Bring Your Sisters (duo) at Lodge du Village in Meribel Village.

Friday at Jacks, you’ll find Mikey Gray and his trusty roadie live from 5pm and The Indie Kings at Rond Point during après.

Saturday 17th of December brings a close to the week with another transfer day. We say goodbye to all of our lovely guests from the first week of the season and welcome the ‘newbees’. Praying for a bit more snow as we enter into the second week of the season, at least we’re one week closer to Christmas!

Stay safe snow worshippers and keep chasing that powder!
