Scott's restaurant review

Delicious hearty food, fabulous cocktails & live music

featured in Restaurant reviews Author Amelia Power, Meribel Reporter Updated

Scott’s restaurant and bar, alongside The Pub are part of the Hotel Doron. Located in the heart of Meribel Centre right next to to the tourist office it is a prime location for delicious hearty food, fabulous cocktails and live music 3 nights a week.

We arrived for a fairly late sitting on a Friday night to a full restaurant and with a large group of people already enjoying cocktails around the bar.

For starters we tried all 3 options of the well-known Scott’s chicken wings which I’d heard so much about around resort; barbecue, spicy and sweet chilli. The 12 chicken wings were incredibly well priced at only 8 euros. The barbecue chicken wings were sweet and sticky and the meat was wonderfully tender with a good amount of meat on the bone. The spicy chicken wings were spicy but not overpowering and full off flavour-just as moreish as the barbecue wings. The sweet chilli chicken wings though were the winner, the sauce was sweet and went really well with the sesame seed garnish. All three plates were polished off and not a shred of meat was left on any bone, a resounding success for our chicken wing starter!

Scott’s prides itself on being a burger restaurant, and its menu really reflects a wide array of burgers! To mention a few; the classic burger, a Mexican themed burger and the infamously huge Scott’s burger featuring 2 beef burgers, bacon, cheese, pulled pork, hash brown, jalapenos and onion rings. We however opted for something a little quirky- the Savoyard burger. The Savoyard burger contains a beef burger, raclette cheese, sautéed potatoes, cornichons and lardons. If you want a typical Savoyard meal but also are really craving a proper English style burger then the Savoyard is the perfect compromise you’re looking for! The burger was served with delicious home made chips which were golden brown, perfectly crunchy and some of the best chips I’ve had in a really long time. There were also a side salad of crunchy young leaves and sweet red pepper which was wonderfully dressed with a light balsamic vinaigrette.

The beef burger itself tasted high quality and was cooked perfectly pink in the middle so that the flavours of the tender beef could really ring through. The local raclette cheese was deliciously gooey and tasted divine with the crunchy and salty bacon lardons. Having been doubtful about a place for sautéed potatoes in a burger I was pleasantly surprised, the potatoes added another dimension to both the flavour and the texture of the burger and helped to soak up some of the lovely melted raclette cheese. The cornichons gave an acidic edge of vinegar to cut through the rich flavours of the cheese and reminded us that we were in fact eating a burger not a tartiflette!  Priced at 17 euros this burger definitely wont leave you hungry and is worth every penny for its fantastic combination of French cuisine and hearty burger.

For dessert we shared the hot brownie. Served with toffee sauce and a choice of ice cream, this 8 euro delight was just what we needed as a sweet finish to our meal. The vanilla ice cream which we opted for was creamy and melted all over the hot and gooey and chocolate brownie. It’s safe to say that this dessert was polished off in seconds flat, with barely a smudge of toffee sauce left on the plate at the end.

Throughout the meal we drank the house red wine, ‘Curée Ella’, an 18 euro bottle French merlot blend and an easy drinker alongside the big flavours of our meal. As our meal drew to a close local band Daisy B were setting up by the bar to host Scott’s famous Friday night open mic session. This night is definitely one for your weekly calendar to see the faces of many of the other local talents like The Mardy Johnny Depps, The Wingmen and The Slopes, as well as many many others. So why not head down to Scott’s, perhaps at a late sitting before one of their live music nights. Enjoy an affordable and delicious burger which is sure to re-energise you after a long day on the slopes and prepare you for a night of fun!
