Meribel Apres Ski Report: 13th March 2013

A Native American Adventure

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Jack Franks, Meribel Reporter Updated

This week I became a member of a new tribe. The tribe consisted of some postmen, some chalet hosts and some ski bums and the leader of our tribe was named "Chief 2Bite" due to his ferocious appetite and incredible ability to be able to eat a Mottaret Mountain Burger in just two bites.

No, I have not been eating special mountain mushrooms...but I have been smoking an unusual pipe with a bird's head attached to it whilst wearing a dead stoat. I am referring to the quirky Indian Village which can be found on the 'Indians' piste in Courchevel.

Well worth a look; this themed run is complete with tipis, an archery range and a traditional compost toilet (which you are to thank 'the moons pearl' for the use of). Upon entering the tipi you will be asked to elect a chief who will then be dressed in the appropriate attire. The rest of the tribe will follow in turn and before you know it you will be in full Indian headdress, drinking tea and posing with all manner of Native American artefacts wondering if you are still having a wild dream courtesy of last weeks fondue cheese feast.

The Indian village is a fun lunchtime stopping point and the kind people running it just ask for a small donation for the service. Far more interesting than your standard €12 vin chaud at the top of the mountain.

The sky seems to be trying very hard to give us some snow at the moment but what it has delivered has been a bit of a let down so far. This has been made all the more frustrating by the dozens of thrilling Facebook statuses I have read over the last couple of days informing me that there has been a foot of snow in England!

For some of you, the deteriorating ski conditions will naturally lead you to favour the 'apres' over the 'ski' and this is no bad thing as there is plenty to keep you entertained in resort for the final weeks of the season:

The Den has just started a cocktail night on Monday evenings which was a great success last week. Music was provided by Daisy B and Tom who were both delighted with their coffee martinis at just €4 a pop.

Tonight (Wednesday) Meribel's soft rock royalty, 'The Feeling' will be playing a one off show at the Auditorium with support from some of your favourite season musicians. Tickets are €15 on the door or €12 if bought at the Taverne in advance - grab them quick as this is very likely to sell out.

Finally, as if the auditorium wasn't getting enough action, in just a couple of weeks time, on Tuesday 26th March, Meribel's only retro cinema night will be opening with an exclusive showing of the cult classic, The Goonies.

Presented by Scott's Bar and Goulash Promotions, expect shouts of 'HEY YOU GUUUUYS!' and nostalgia by the bucketload. Tickets are €7 or €5 for seasonaires - this price includes a free shot after the show in Scott's. Tickets available at Scott's or by calling 06 48 20 01 19.

It's all happening.....
