Meribel News | Méribel season finishes with exceptional snow
Méribel season finishes with exceptional snow
by Caroline Sayer | 3 Valleys Resort Reporter | published 27-Apr-2008

Méribel’s lifts close today after some of the best end-of-season snow conditions for many years. Over 2m of snow remains on the upper pistes, and this last week of the season has offered both powder skiing and excellent spring snow off-piste. The trend for April over the past few seasons has been for substantial snow depths on the upper runs and enough snow at lower altitude to allow skiing back to the resort. Those lucky enough to be skiing over this last weekend have enjoyed fantastic conditions, glorious weather and empty slopes: a apt way to finish one of the best season for many years. read more...

Coeur Blanc ski challenge raises £170 000
by Caroline Sayer | 3 Valleys Resort Reporter | published 8-Apr-2008 | last updated 11-Apr-2008

The first Coeur Blanc ski challenge – where participants attempted to take all 57 lifts in the Méribel Valley in one day – raised an incredible £170 000 for charity. The brain-child of Méribel regulars Pierre Taylor and Rory Tapner, the event drew 80 competitors all of whom managed to complete the challenge via different routes. Perfect weather and snow conditions on the day enabled the teams to ski the necessary 15 000 vertical metres – equivalent to skiing Mt. Everest twice. £150,000 has been raised so far for a Leukemia research charity with around €17,000 going to Meribel disabled skiers. All the ski guides donated their fee for the day to disabled skiing as well, raising a further €3,500. Competitors were award a solid silver badge with a small diamond in the top right hand corner which they are encouraged to wear when skiing in Méribel in future. read more...

Huge dumps of snow for Easter!
by Helen McGrory | Ski Content Editor | published 24-Mar-2008

Was it Batman that used to say “Holy Moly”? Well even if it wasn’t that’s the only way to describe the amount of snow that’s fallen across the Alps this weekend! It’s incredible! Many of you will have already received our Dump Alert this morning, letting you know that the snow has been falling pretty constantly for the last three days. I cleared nearly 2 feet of snow from my car this weekend after just a few hours of snowfall, and if the ploughs hadn’t been clearing like crazy, we would have knee deep powder in town! read more...
