Meribel Apres Ski Report: 22nd March 2013

DJs, Goonies and Pro Shredders

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Jack Franks, Meribel Reporter Updated

This week a number of different things have limited my apres intake. Perhaps the biggest of which being the incredible snow we have received here in Meribel recently.

A rare dump of powder in the middle of March is a good enough excuse to ditch my duties as an apres reporter for a few days I think! The second reason is that half of Meribel decided to jump ship and head over to Tignes for the X Games this week. Reports suggest that a great time was had by all and I am grateful for the half empty mountain they left me with here in Meribel - smiles all round.

But I am back and ready to party like it's 2009 (there ain't no party like a wide eyed first season party). Next week, world class DJ Norman Jay is playing at Dick's Tea Bar on Tuesday the 26th and also at apres at Rond Point on Wednesday. Jay is one of London's most influential and experienced house DJs, don't miss out when he brings his funk and jazz tinged sound to Meribel.

Also on Tuesday, Meribel is going back in time with the opening of our first retro cinema night. Come down to the auditorium on Tuesday evening for a showing of the classic movie, The Goonies. €7 a ticket and a free shot at Scott's with every ticket.

If you are looking for a little bit of inspiration to get you to push yourself to nail that 360 you have been trying all season or smash that box grind you have been building yourself up to do then do not miss out on the freestyle ski event of the season. Here in our very own DC Area 43 Park, the DC Shred Days takes place from the 3rd to the 5th of April with some of the best riders in the world coming down to hit the park. The legend that is Travis Rice will be there too so this really is a special event.

Finally, make a note in your diaries. On the 4th of April, the finest amateur DJs Meribel has to offer will be coming together in Dick's Tea Bar to battle it out in the 'Battle of the DJs'. Each DJ has a short set to impress the crowd and whoever's set gets the best reception will be crowned 'King of the DJs'.

It seems these days that anyone with an iphone and a DJ app is convinced they will be the next David Guetta so this is bound to be an entertaining night with some interesting song choices.
