What's on in Meribel & The 3 Valleys This Week

Summer fun in the Trois Vallees

Last week saw a very relaxed Meribel with Wellness week taking place. It was all about being ‘at one’ with the elements. There was an itinerary running all week with various outdoor workshops and classes covering everything from shiatsu, yoga, massage to Brazilian dancing.

Whilst the ski season is definitely over there is the opportunity to get your skis back on and practice some jumps on the airbag in Meribel-Mottaret. In front of the Plattieres gondola there is a big air bag open every day in the morning from 10am-12.30pm and in the afternoon from 1.30pm-7pm. If you want to just try one jump it is only 2 euros however if you want to have 30 minutes of flying onto the airbag perfecting those jumps ready for winter it is 12 euros. You have the option of either skis or an inflatable tube to slide down on. Either way, sounds like fun!

Also over in Meribel-Mottaret there is an elastic bungee trampoline for children and some small motorised go-karts. All within viewing range from the restaurant where you can relax with a cool beverage. There are two skate parks at both Meribel La Chaudanne and Meribel-Mottaret. This lingo means nothing to mean but hopefully it will to you, the park has…jump box, spine, hip curu, wall ride and trick box curved modules!

Over in the Belleville Valley there are several events coming up at the weekend. La Bourgui will be taking place on Saturday for the 14th year running which is a road cycling race starting from St Martin and heading towards Albertville. There are two circuits to choose from with distances ranging from 80km to 127km. The race will be followed by a well deserved pasta party in Les Menuires for all those who took part.

Also on Saturday there will be a procession of vintage cars travelling from St Martin up to Les Menuires. The drive will continue on Sunday heading all the way up to Val Thorens. At the same time there will be a beer festival in St Martin with lots of activities including the harder than it looks hay bale throwing contest!

If things are getting too hot over in Courchevel then head to the ice rink which is open every evening from 5pm until 7pm. Also this week on Wednesday evening at 8.30pm there is a figure skating gala so you can watch how it’s done by the experts. There’s no shuffling round the edge holding onto the handrail!

There is also the traditional village fete the same weekend in Le Praz with events and activities on both Saturday and Sunday. You might have to wait until temperatures cool down in the evening to be tempted by the local cauldron of soup and there will be lots of games, a traditional wood carving demonstration and a lantern parade.

A pretty varied program across the Three Valleys and as temperatures have remained high there are also some calories to be burned hiking and biking on the trails which are open this summer.

The sun seems due to stick around in the mountains with temperatures breaking towards the end of the week with some stormy evenings on their way. It means you can still make the most of the sunny days and with all the activities to do, you’ll probably be tucked up in bed by the time the rain falls!
