British Airways Opening up More Flights to the Alps, Whereas Air France Anticipates Strikes

Latest airline news for winter 2015/16

Flights could be influenced this winter by possible strike action by Air France workers, due to the threat of cost-cutting and job losses. On the other hand, British Airways are opening up a new service between Chambery and London City.

Air France are expecting some turbulence this winter, after a meeting this week to implement new pay structures for pilots that boil down to them flying more hours for less money. Understandably, the pilots are not impressed by this new cost-cutting scheme. Air France aims to improve its profitability to bring it in line with other major airlines, claiming that their pilots cost them 25% more than their competitors. The "restructuring" of Air France is expected to lead to thousands of job losses, so don't be surprised to see strike action on the horizon.

Good news for people travelling to the Three Valleys (Meribel, Courchevel, Val Thorens), Espace Killy (Tignes, Val d'Isere) and Paradiski (Les Arcs, la Plagne) though, as British Airways have announced a new daily service from London City airport to Chambery. Flights take about an hour and a half and are scheduled to operate four times a week throughout the winter, starting this December.
