5 Reasons to embrace spring skiing in Meribel

From lazy lunches in the sunshine to great end of season parties

featured in News & reviews Author Jack Franks, Meribel Reporter Updated

It is true that this ski season is in it’s later stages, but don't think of that as a bad thing.

Here are several reasons why you should put a smile on your face and enjoy what the spring has to offer.

Sunshine

This is probably the most obvious of the list. Though it has actually been snowing for the last couple of days, the weather has been incredible recently and there is more sun due. So take off a few layers and enjoy the freedom that sunshine brings.

Beer & Wine

Any drinks are acceptable really but rather than heading to as many mountainside refuges for hot chocolates and huddling around the fire for warmth, now is the time to find as many terraces as you can for cold drinks in the sunshine. My favourite has to be the Rond Point for great prices and a brilliant atmosphere.

Slush

This one isn’t for everyone but for the playful skiers and boarders out there, the slush can be a LOT of fun. Though the mountains may seem like they're covered in moguls to many at this time of year, the wonderful thing about slushy bumps is that if you hit them with enough force they will collapse under your weight. This allows for bouncy, ‘spring-loaded’ fun and a great chance to practice tricks all over the mountain, especially in the afternoon when the pistes have been carved to shreds. Please do be careful though!

Longer days

The clocks have changed and we have been blessed with a full hour more of daylight. Use this time to your advantage. Why not go for a nice walk around the Lac du Tueda after skiing or get in touch with Les Pierres Plates Restaurant to take part in their ‘Last Tracks’ event. Enjoy a twilight drink at the top of the mountain before a guided ski down on empty slopes all the way from Saulire to the bottom.

End of Season Parties

Closing Parties are sad, they mean that the season is coming to an end. But they are also an excuse for a really good time! Check in with the various venues around town to see what they have going on. Most places are putting on several big events before closing their doors this season. My top pick is the 3 Valleys Charity Day in Meribel Village on Wednesday 6th April. The party to end all parties and all for a good cause.

Enjoy!
