French Chefs Rebel Against Online Reviews

Petition launched to call for moderated restaurant reviews

featured in News & reviews Author Robin Deering, Meribel Editor Updated

A French Michelin starred chef has launched a petition to call for  online restaurant reviews to be moderated in hope to put a stop to damaging reviews.

A recent study has indicated that up to 9 out of 10 holiday makers consult online reviews and a similar figure find the reviews to be useful in planning their trip.
The online opinion place of review sites can certainly be useful for holidaymakers and for tourist establishments to improve on their service, however some reviews can be very damaging to hotels and restaurants. This is why Michelin starred chef Pascal Favre d'Anne is calling for moderation on reviews.

The "No to Insulting Reviews to Restaurants" petition has already achieved 1750 signatures.

The petition calls for review sites such as TripAdvisor to moderate reviews and to ask for evidence before being able to leave a review. Other reservation sites only allow reviews to be submitted after a reservation has been completed which eliminates the possibility of fraudulent and defamatory reviews.

Here at SeeMeribel.com we pride ourselves in our honest and unbiased restaurant reviews which we can justify.

Should reviews be moderated, or will the freedom of speech and online word of mouth be devalued as a consequence?
